Clinical Focus:

A 68-year-old male presents with advanced cicatricial entropion of the right lower eyelid that is refractory (unresponsive) to temporary conservative therapies.

Diagnostic criteria and characteristics of entropion include:

Inversion (inward turning) of the eyelid margin and lashes toward the globe
Severe mechanical ocular irritation caused by lashes rubbing on the cornea (trichiasis)
Pathophysiology driven by a weak orbicularis muscle or conjunctival scarring leading to symblepharon
Dehydration of the exposed ocular surfaces, superficial punctate keratitis, or corneal ulceration

When short-term measures fail to halt corneal friction and prevent long-term sight-threatening complications, definitive surgical correction is required to anatomically redirect the lid margin away from the globe.
